Dear Author:
The following is an author kit to help you in the preparation of your paper. No hard copy author kit will be sent.

IMPORTANT NOTE: THE MAJOR REASON FOR FILES TO BE REJECTED BY IEEE CS AND RETURNED TO THE AUTHOR FOR CORRECTIONS IS THE USE OF INCOMPATIBLE FONTS. PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS "FILE NAMING CONVENTION" CAREFULLY; IT CONTAINS IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE USE OF FONTS.
REMEMBER THAT FONTS USED IN ALL ARTWORK, FIGURES, TABLES, CAPTIONS, ETC. MUST ALSO BE TIMES-ROMAN AND HELVETICA, ONLY.
IF YOU FEEL YOUR PDF FILE MAY HAVE UNAVOIDABLE ERRORS, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR ORIGINAL FILE (DOC) ALONG WITH THE POSTSCRIPT FILE.

PAPER PAGE LIMITS:
Invited speakers may publish a full paper or an extended abstract in the proceedings.
Regular papers:
A regular paper may have up to 10 B/W pages or 9 B/W pages plus one color page. These are free of charge.
Poster papers:
A poster paper may have up to 2 B/W pages free of charge.
Extra pages:
For either a regular paper or a poster paper, a maximum of two extra color pages are allowed and charged at US$400 per page and a maximum of two extra B/W pages are allowed and charged at US$150 per page.

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR FILE SUBMISSION
The IEEE Computer Society's FTP site is now password-protected. Anonymous logon is only available to download formatting tools.
To upload your paper using a web browser, please use the following URL link. You will be prompted for a password. After entering the password, you will have access to our secure FTP site and may upload your paper.

If you are uploading your paper using a FTP transfer software, you will need to login into our ftp site at:

We cannot publish your paper without this permission. PLEASE NOTE: The copyright form is an attachment to this e-mail.
FILE NAMING CONVENTION
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please use the following file naming conventions when sending your paper to the IEEE CS ftp site:
Invited Speaker's submission would be named
REGULAR submission would be named
POSTER submission would be named
PLEASE REFER TO THE LIST AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS MESSAGE FOR YOUR CODE NUMBER.
Files are moved off the FTP site daily. Please do not re-post your paper if you do not see it on the site.
Postscript files are preferred. Please follow these directions:
Prepare your U.S. Letter-size (8.5" x 11") paper as plain ASCII PostScript only, with NO encoding, condensing, or encapsulation.
Please use TrueType 1 fonts wherever possible.
Fonts MUST be from Latin 1 Fontset. Our PostScript printers will not recognize any other fonts.
Do not use bitmapped versions of fonts such as Computer Modern if you can avoid it.
Do not use Ryumin fonts; we do not have this font, and errors will occur when we try to print the file.
Please use Helvetica or Times-Roman, only.

Some older FTP applications (RapidFTP included) may require the user to choose a remote operating system type. In these instances choose: "MS Windows NT - Unix".
ABSTRACT
All proceedings published by the IEEE Computer Society Press are now being included in the IEEE Computer Society Digital Library, and are available on-line through our Web site .
An emailed abstract of your paper is necessary to include your paper in the on-line version of the PG 2002 proceedings.
Please send an electronic copy of your abstract as an email in ASCII format and including the paper title, keywords, author names, addresses, and affiliations, to . Note: please wait at least 2 weeks after the paper due date for this address to become operational.
ATTACHMENTS
There are two customized attachments to this author kit. They contain:
  • AUTHOR GUIDELINES
    Instructions on formatting your paper for the proceedings.
  • COPYRIGHT RELEASE FORM (see above)
    A copyright release form that MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED WITH YOUR PAPER. Note that you are stating that the material in your paper is original and you have not previously released copyright to it. We cannot publish your paper without this properly filled-out and signed form.
  • REPRINT ORDER FORM
    To use if you wish reprints of your paper. Please make checks for reprints out to the IEEE Computer Society.
    (The reprints.pdf attachment below will allow you to type your information directly into the form before you print it out.)
